Did You Catch All the 2022 Training Package Transitions?

Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are responsible for staying informed about the latest changes to training packages to maintain compliance and stay relevant in their industry. Additionally, keeping up to date with training package transitions pays off in marketing and recruitment since it communicates to students your RTO’s credibility and offers the latest and in-demand courses they can benefit from when entering the workforce.

Since the changes to training packages come with strict transition deadlines set by ASQA, it’s important for your RTO to prepare right away so you can manage any issues that come up during your transition.

Training Package Transitions: How your RTO Can Stay Compliant in 7 Steps

To ensure compliance, RTOs should take the following measures in response to recent training package revisions:

1. Stay up to date with the latest training package transitions.

Stay up to date on the latest changes to training packages, including any transition periods and deadlines, to align courses and assessments with new standards.

2. Review your learning resources and assessments.

Your RTO should ensure that courses and assessments are current and meet new standards by reviewing them in light of the training package revisions.

3. Upskill your RTO.

Most of the time, your trainers and assessors determine how your students perceive your RTO. By investing in professional development and upskilling them to deliver updated courses, you maintain compliance and improve your credibility with your learners and prospective students.

4. Attend training events.

Attending conferences, seminars, and workshops is also a surefire way to upskill your staff, improve their knowledge of the recent training package changes, and maintain best practices overall.

5. Use current resources.

While it’s evident that RTOs should update their current training materials following training package transitions, investing in compliant, high-quality resources can prove challenging since RTOs have a vast market of training resource providers to choose from.

The type of setup (e.g., face-to-face, online, or blended training), your RTO’s capacity to contextualise its own resources, and how many students your RTO can accommodate should be among the top priorities your RTO should consider when trying to find the best training resources.

While these questions may not be all the priorities for your RTO, they may help you figure out the best training materials to invest in.

6. Ensure contextualisation.

Do your trainers have the skills and experience to contextualise your RTO materials? If yes, then congratulations! But if they don’t, it may be wise for your RTO to seek resources that are already updated or provide updates to the training materials.

While it’s cost-efficient to have your trainers contextualise the training resources themselves, it may affect the quality of your RTO materials as well as the training delivery quality of your trainers; they’ll have to divide their limited time between training preparation and contextualisation, plus they don’t have the necessary experience to apply the best practices for instructional design.

7. Remember the training package transition deadlines.

ASQA has set firm deadlines for training package transitions. Acting quickly is vital as a delay can negatively affect marketing and enrolment, impacting the business. It’s recommended to take the necessary steps to accommodate the changes and update course materials promptly.
